The First Narayever Congregation is a traditional egalitarian synagogue in downtown Toronto. We invite you to join our warm and vibrant community and encourage you to forge a close bond with the First Narayever Congregation as a member.
A true sense of community and identity develops through attendance at services and through participation in the many activities and programs relevant to a Jewish spiritual life.
We offer traditional davening, with many traditional and new tunes, and much congregational participation. Men and women participate equally in all aspects of the service from leading services to leyning.
We daven from the Birnbaum siddur (nusach sefarad). We read the Torah on an annual cycle.
We encourage our community to participate in services. To read Torah or Haftorah, or to lead davening, please contact Dalia at dalia_margalit@hotmail.com or at 416.966.9957.
We have Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday nights at 6pm, year round. Shabbat morning services begin at 9 am, and are followed by a Kiddush luncheon. After Kiddush, the Rabbi leads a study of the weekly parsha nearly every week, or we have special guest teachers who teach on topics ranging from new Israeli poetry to methods of Torah study. On Sunday we have a morning minyan at 9 am. We have morning services on all holidays and holy days.
The shul offers educational programs for children and adults, and participation in important and rewarding social justice work. The support, guidance, and encouragement of the shul and its community are comforting in the struggle with the spirituality of everyday life and significant life cycle events.
