The Jewish people has always been diverse. Among the most famous and long lasting divisions has been that between Ashkenazim and Sephardim. In this mini-course, we will learn what these terms originally meant, and how their usage changed through time. We will consider the unique history of each community, and we will compare and contrast the two from a religious and cultural point of view. We will also reflect on the meaning of these distinctions in terms of Jewish society in our own time, here in North America, in Europe, and in Israel. The course fee is $18. Please register here or with the shul office.
