Yom Kippur Perspectives with Rabbi Ed Elkin and Guests

Thursday, September 16, 2021 10 Tishrei 5782

1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Last Yom Kippur, Rabbi Ed hosted a series of adult education programs on the afternoon of Yom Kippur, which were live-streamed out to Narayever High Holiday registrants. This year we are bringing back this program, with all new guests and topics. You are invited to spend all or part of your afternoon on this most reflective day of the Jewish year by hearing conversations with some important guests, mostly Narayever members with expertise on some of the important questions facing us as individuals and as a community this year. Among the guests we are going to hear from are: • Benjy Cohen (Bialik Hebrew Day School), and Greg Beiles (Toronto Heschel School), Heads of School at two of the most prominent Jewish Day Schools in the GTA • Dr. Suzanne Shoush and Dr. Philip Berger, two physicians who are on the front lines in the struggle for social justice • Marcia Beck and Dr. Marshall Korenblum, two mental health professionals who have spent the pande- mic striving to assist teens with the challenges of the pandemic • Justice Marvin Kurz, in conversation with Rabbi Ed about religious and secular approaches to justice. • Narayever teens Sophie B. and Faye B., on why we fast on Yom Kippur. Guests will share their reflections on these critically important topics with Rabbi Ed and with each other, and in the case of our social justice program, with Narayever’s social action chair Dyanoosh Youssefi. Details on these and other programs can be found at narayever.ca/high-holidays.
