Elaine Gold will discuss an exciting exhibit about Yiddish that will be opening on April 4 at the Canadian Language Museum at Glendon College.. This exhibit combines the sound installation ‘The Music of Yiddish Blessings and Curses’ by Berlin-based composer Paul Brody, with the visual exhibit “The Yiddish Kheyder”, created by Miriam Borden, a doctoral student at the Centre of Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto. Dr. Gold will describe the development of this multi-faceted exhibit that will be part of ‘Yiddish Spring’, Toronto events focused on Yiddish language and culture. She will also outline the history and goals of the Canadian Language Museum and describe some of the projects being planned for 2019 to honour the UN’s International Year of Indigenous Languages. Elaine Gold is a long-time member of the Narayever. She has a PhD in Linguistics and taught at the University of Toronto for over 20 years. Since initiating the establishment of the Canadian Language Museum in 2011 she has served as its Director and has overseen the development of its exhibits and programs.
