In this four-part mini-course, we will be examining one of the most complex figures in the Bible, the great King David. Looking at excerpts from the copious biblical material about David, as well as rabbinic midrashim and recent scholarship, we will attempt to understand why David was such a seminal figure in his own time, and why he has come to play such an outsized role in Jewish life ever since.
