ISRAELI OCCUPATION IS AN OXYMORON Post-Kiddush Program with Sally Zerker Can the Jewish presence in the land of Israel be termed an “occupation”? In this program, Professor Zerker intends to answer this question through factual presentations of Jewish legal and aboriginal rights to the land. Professor Sally F. Zerker is a professor emeritus at York University, where she began teaching in 1968 and was Director of Canadian Studies for a decade in the 1980s. A Toronto native and longtime resident, she received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Toronto, the only woman in graduate economics at that time. With special interests in the Canadian economy and the international oil industry, she published two books, and many scholarly articles for newspapers in Canada and abroad. She was a member of the Ontario Energy Board from 1997 - 2003, working on the transformation of Hydro One to open market operation among other projects. She was a founding member of Canadian Professors for Peace in the Middle East in 1975 and editor of its journal Middle East Focus, and has been involved with the think-tank Canadian Institute for Jewish Research for the past 30 years.
