Yom Kippur Appeal

Tikkun Olam and tzedek tzedek tirdof – repairing the world and pursuing justice – guide Narayever’s Social Action Committee. These values reflect who we are as a community and how we see our role as Jews in the world.

On of the ways we live out these principles is through our Yom Kippur Appeal, raising funds for organizations in both Israel and Toronto that put justice and compassion into action. This year, we again expect 50 -60% of the funds to go toward urgent needs in Israel – medical, social, and housing. The remainder will support local organizations, with an ongoing commitment to our Out of the Cold program.

At Kol Nidre, we invited attendees to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah by making a pledge. Your generosity supports organizations that embody Jewish values – from feeding the hungry and housing the homeless, to advancing peace-building, responding to crises, and giving strength to those facing hate and discrimination.

Last year, funds raised from our Yom Kippur appeal were disbursed to 11 charities, with particular attention being paid to charities working in immigration and displacement. The full list of last year's grantees may be found here.

Donations in any amount will help those in need.

Tax receipts will be issued after the end of the year, typically in early February.
